Getting around: A car is necessary to get from the hotel to the beaches, visitor attractions, and shopping, dining, and entertainment areas. Driving the area’s main arteries east-west (to both coasts) and north-south (Fort Lauderdale to Miami) is typically smooth and fast. Traffic is much slower along A1A but A1A provides the best scenery. Even more water views are enjoyed from the water taxis which stop along the Intracoastal Waterway and the New River into downtown Fort Lauderdale.
